Oct.2,2010 New Floor

We checked out of the Staybridge Inns this morning and went to see if our new floors were done. Not quite but we could spend the night in the Rv.They finished up on Monday. We're pleased with the job and it looks very nice. No more tracking dirt in on the carpet. Makes it look like a new RV. Here's some pictures of the process.Old carpet and floor and new floor. Sept.28,2010 Studebaker,Notre Dame and Chocolate

We got up this morning and was off to South Bend to see the Studebaker Museum and tour Notre Dame. Studebaker first started making wagons and buggies in the 1800's.

Studebaker made carriages for some of our past presidents.

This is one of my favorites,wouldn't you love to drive around in this.

As the saying goes they gave more than they promised. Next we're off to Notre Dame home of the Fighting Irish.

The University of Notre Dame was founded in 1852 by Edward Sorin,a priest of the Congregation of the Holy Cross.It has a student body of 8,000 and and 3,000 graduate students.This college is enormous and beautiful. On our walking tour we go to Grotto of our Lady of Lourdes,this is a replica of the apparition site in France.It's a place of prayer and reflection marked by the glow of the candles.

The Basilica of the Sacred Heart was build in 1888.All students attend services although do have services elsewhere on campus for different religions.Here are some pictures of the inside and out.

Next on the tour was the original Notre Dame building where students had their classes.

There is a building facing the stadium with a mural on it and everyone calls it touchdown Jesus.Go Irish


After all this touring it was time for some chocolate at the Chocolate cafe and home after a long day.

Sept. 24,2010 RV Hall of Fame

We are in our new home at Staybridge Suites in Elkhart where we will be staying for 10 days.We brought our motorhome into Elite RV in Elkhart to have new carpet and flooring put in on the 20th. They're suppose to have it ready for us on the 1st Oct. We'll see. We can't stay in rv while work is being done so that's why were in motel. While here we went to the RV Hall of Fame. They had a lot of old rvs and it was fun to see what they looked like in the beginning.

These rvs are sure different from what we drive today. That was what you would call luxury in days past.I'll take the road less traveled in our Holiday Rambler.

Sept.18,2010 Apple fest Nappannee

The 50th Escapade finished with a dance party and it was a lot of fun. We had fun seeing old friends and meeting new ones.I went to several seminars on digital photos and using Picasa for editing my photos. I always learn something new from the Geeks Jim and Chris. Sept.9,2010 Goshen,In.

We arrived in Elkhart and met up with RV friends Jim and Joanne Franklin. They were having work done on their coach and we were getting ready for our Escapees Rally. It was nice to be able to hang out for a few days before they left for home in Idaho.

This area is full of Amish families and we see them everywhere with their buggies.

We went to Shipshawana one day for their giant swap meet. This place is huge and we will come back after our rally to see more.

We have arrived at the fairgrounds and met with all the parking team that will be parking 800 rvs this week.Now the fun begins.Some of the parking crew feeding their faces. Linda and Lynn Laymon and Lee and Arly.

Aug.28,2010 Ashtabula

Our adventure today was to Geneva-on-the lake for the swap meet and a walk around the town.We didn't find any fleas we could live with so we walked around town and stopped for a view of Lake Erie.We ended up having lunch at Eddie's grill and was this place packed. It's like a old 50's place and people were lined up to order their cheeseburgers and fries.Cheap burgers and fries and milkshakes.Just ok.

After eating we headed to Ashtabula and stopped by to see the Hubbard House.This was one of the houses that was used in the underground railroad to hide the slaves heading north.

We got a view of the Astabula Lighthouse.

As we drove along Lake Erie we came to Point Park where you can view the bascule lift bridge.The bridge raises every 1/2 hour in the summer.It was fun to sit and watch how it worked.

Across the street from the park is the Marine and Coast guard museum with displays of shipping on the Great lakes.You can view the tractors working with the coal and loading the ships.

We had a nice day out in Ohio.
