Sept.- Oct.2014 Wyoming to Texas

We left Wyoming headed for Texas to visit friends and do some sightseeing along way. The first stop was Fort Bridger. Fort Bridger was originally a fur trading outpost established in 1842 by Jim Bridger. It was later used as a supply point
for wagon trains heading to Ore.,Calif. and Utah. Eventually the Mormans ran Jim Bridger off and took over the fort. Later battles ensued between the Mormans and Army and after all the dust had settled Wm. Carter and his family took over the fort and became the 1st millionaire in Wy.

Next stop was Bent's Old Fort in Colorado. It was called the Castle of the Plains, reconstructed in1840 of adobe. The fort was a fur trading on the mountain branch of the Santa Fe Trail. This is where traders, trappers, travelers, Cheyenne and Arapahoe tribes came together for peaceful trade and Buffalo robes. Bent's Fort was the only place on the Santa Fe Trail where wagons could be repaired and supplies replenished.

 

 

 

 

Our next stop was in Texas where stopped for 2 nights to visit friends we met on a cruise. We went down to see the Stockyards and had a nice Mexican dinner.

After leaving Ft. Worth we were on our way 2 hours east to see a very special friend for a couple of weeks. Neva and I have known each other over 50 years. We were roomates and in each others wedding. We have lots of memories of our times together. Her husband passed on in April. While we were there she and I did a lot of shopping and ate out a lot. It was so good to see our very special friend.Here's a photo of her and Sam at AJ's. lots of catfish and shrimp.

Sept. 3-6 2014 Jackson Greys River

On the 3rd friends Ken and Carolyn had a Thanksgiving in Sept. pot luck party. They had about 30 people and and everyone brought side dishes. Ken had a trash can turkey he cooked and it was so tender and good.

 

 

A good time was had by all.

 

On the 5th Sam and I drove to Jackson along the Grey's river and met friends in Jackson for dinner and a play. We went to see Paint You Wagon. The scenery along the way is so pretty. I could stay in this area for the whole summer.

We had a great time in Wyoming visiting friends and seeing places we've never been before.

Aug 31 2014 Intermitten Springs

While here at Star Valley Ranch they have lots of roads you can take and go see wildlife, rivers and much more. One day we decided to take a road to Intermitten springs. This spring is beautiful with waterfalls. You hike in about a mile and there it is. The best time to see it work it's magic is the spring and fall.When we were there it was flowing full force. When the water isn't going full force there is a tunnel at the top and a spring pond. The water will fill the pond and then empty and stop flowing until it fills up again.This makes the falls intermitten about every 20 minutes.Even if it wasn't doing it's thing when we were there,it was beautiful.

Aug.29 2014 Idaho and Wyoming

On the 25th we left Chimacum bound for Wyoming.We spent the first nite on the Oregon and Wahington border at Plymouth Park, a Corp of Engineers park. For 13.50 a nite we had full hookups. Can't beat that. It's a very nice park. The next day we drove to Boise to see friends and they were having a rally that week at the Koa. Needless to say we stayed there overnight so we could visit them and had dinner with their group.We never stay at KOA but we made a exception. We hadn't seen them  in a couple of years and it was good to visit and catch up.
 The next day are destination was Idaho Falls for the night and stayed at the Elks Lodge. In the morning we continued on to Star Valley Ranch Resort, where we were going to stay for 10 days. Along the way we passed some beautiful scenery and the Snake River.

Aug.16 2014 Wine Tasting

In June I started a monthly wine tasting night and had about 28 show up. I wanted to get people together and meet some of the new members and be able to have some social time together.It turned out great and we had another in July and Aug. This was to be our last one of the season as we would be heading east. I had door prizes and Diane Roulier said she was going to continue doing them. Yeah. Carry on.
                                         

 

Fun Times

Aug.2-10 CoHo Days

The first week in August the SKP park in Chimacum has it's CoHo Days. They have there annual meeting and lots of fun activities all week. It started out with the Pet,Push and Peddle parade.

The next day we had the ladies tea and fashion show and it was a great success. The men prepared the food and served the tea and did a great job.

A fun time was had by all.

 

 During the week we had our annual meeting,abreakfast,dinner ,music and many more activities.

July 2014 4th July,winery,concert,and lots more.

Yes it's 4th of July already. Where does the time go.We started out at Evergreen CoHo with a 4th of July potluck BBQ, a cake walk, pet,push and peddle and poker walk.The potluck turned out good with quite a few participating.There hasn't been much going on here and people just aren't wanting to to do anything. I've started a happy hour every Thursday and it started out good with about 25 people and the last 2 weeks it's dropped to about 3.Tried to get Bunco going but has to cancel because of no participation.We did have a wine tasting in June and had about 25 people which turned out real good.I will do another tasting in July and Aug.Here is some photos of the 4th of July here in the park.

On Saturday we went into Pt. Towsend for a concert at the Centrrum Theater.In the summer at Ft Worden they have several types of music and people come from all over the world to learn and perform. This weekend Fiddles without Borders was the venue. On stage were

3 men from Quebec who played and sang traditional French songs.

 

Another one we really liked was Betse Ellis,who could really play the fiddle and sing.She was really on fire and was very entertaining. She was from the Ozarks and had a powerful stage presence and made you sit up and get involved.Wow she was great.

 

There was a band from St. Lucia that was fun and entertaining ,called the Manmay Lakay Folk Band.This band was much like a Caribean with a twist .All entertainers were good and can't wait till the next  one in Aug. which will be the Acoustic Guitars.

 

 

 

After the concert we went to SeaJ's for fish and chips,a perfect ending to a perfect day.

  The next day we decided to get out and go exploring.Our first stop was to Eaglemount Winery.They have cider and wines but we weren't impressed.We did buy 1 bottle but they were quite expensive.We can check that off the list.

Last and final stop the Eaglemount Rockery. I heard about this place on a flyer and had to check it out. They have a few cottages for rent but they also have lots of castles and things made out of stones.

It was an interesting stop. The girls and I took a trip one day to Silverdale to see a movie and had lunch.It was a nice day out. We went to see Tammy and it was very funny,a must see.

Last weekend we went over to Bainbridge Island for a Bluegrass festival. They had about 6 groups playing but liked only 3 groups. They had one group we really liked called American Home Bluegrass. They were very professional and we told them about the Bluegrass Fest in Blythe and Grass Valley,Ca. They have applied for Grass Valley and hope to get into that venue.All the top names in Bluegrass go there. It was hot that day and I got sunburned  but we enjoyed the day and the music.

 

This group was definitely not bluegrass. They were all country, but good.

 

Well we celebrated our 49th anniversary on the 31st and went with friends to Doc's Marina Grill for dinner. Good friends ,great food and on the water. What more could you ask for.
