March 31, 2008

We're still here at TT and our friends Bill & Mary came in for 2 weeks. Sam had Bill's son make us a tire carrier for our motorhome as we don't have a spare tirecarrier and we feel we need one to carry a spare tire. Mary and I went to get material to make the tire cover and I got it sewed and we're set to go.I think we will leave and head out to avoid wind that's suppose to be here in another day or so.

March 14,2008

We left Mesa and went to Yuma chapter 7 rally at Ogilby Rd. outside of Yuma. This was care rally so all money raised went to Care. They had many events including a blinfolded car race. The driver was blindfolded and the passenger was the navigator but they could see. They made a course up and there were about 8 stops and the navigator would get close enough to pop a balloon. What a blast. Considering I was blindfolded I only ran over one of the markers. This was lots of fun.

We ended up raising 5,000 dollars for Care. What a great rally.

March 8,2008 Mesa,Az.

Sam and I moved to Mesa Val Vista for the week and have been very busy. There's so much to do around here. We visited friends Del and Mary who use to live in Vacaville,Ca. before moving to Gilbert. It was nice to see them again. We went with friends Ike and Vicki to the Organ Pizza and that is definately a place to go. They have this huge organ and the pipes and organ are immense ,the biggest i've ever seen. They play music while eating your pizza.A must go place. We also went to the Wrigley Mansion and took their tour. For 10 dollars you can become a member and use the house. They have a nice restaurent.

We also went to the AZ. Oprey for dinner and a show. The dinner isn't that great but the intertainment is good.
One of the entertainers has at least 100 horns and plays all of them. What a hoot. It's all family and good family fun.

March 3,2008 Along the Apache Trail

We continued on the Apache Trail to Tortilla Flats ,a remant of an old west town. It started out as a stage stop in 1904. You can enjoy a cold one at the Superstition Bar and Restaurent. The wallpaper is made up of real dollar bills. A fun stop along this historic trail. From Tortilla flats the road becomes dirt.

Apache Trail March 03,08

We arrived at Tortilla Flats and had lunch there before continuing on. Tortiila Flats began as a stage stop in 1904. There is the Superstition Saloon and restaurent and all the walls are made of dollar bills. A fun stop along the trail.

After our lunch break we continued on the road which then becomes dirt. There is beautiful scenery along the way and several lookouts and lakes.

Another pic of the road ahead. Finally we reached Roosevelt Dam and lake. The dam was completed in 1911 a year before Az. became a state. The lake is beautiful and well worth a drive on the Apache Trail.
Picture of bridge and lake.
The last stop was Tonto Nat'l Monument and we hiked up to the cliff dwellings. The Salado people lived here for 300 years before abandoning in the 1400's. This was a great day trip and I hope you all have the opportunity to drive the trail if your in the area.
